Thermodynamixx – The Successful Concept of Cold and Warmth

In the production of cold always creates heat and vice versa. This physical principle is the basis for the chiller technology. Under the name of MAGMA and ARCTIC, KKT chillers presents thermal energy management systems that simultaneously generate cold and heat by using the decaying energy of the main process for a complementary process, thus providing a highly energy-efficient solution. Areas of application are especially in larger commercial buildings and industrial processes.

The MAGMA series stands for compact high-performance heat pumps, where priority is given to the generation of useful water. The resulting cold finds additional use without additional drive energy. Conversely, ARCTIC units produce up to 1,000 kW of cooling capacity for cooling industrial processes. Resulting waste heat is then used in this case without further input of power as process water or for drying or cleaning processes. The concept works reliably in an ambient temperature range of -25 ° C to + 50 ° C, the media temperatures to be treated can range from -40 ° C to + 70 ° C.

KKT chillers sees success in this field of performance in focusing on demand-optimized specification of the individual device types: Both device types are based on identical components. The specific requirement profile of the respective application alone determines the composition of the individual components, which – depending on the required conditions of use – can be individually compiled, specified and coordinated in terms of material, arrangement and sensor technology.

For example, depending on the temperature range and storage option, a wide variety of compressor technologies are used. The type of heat transfer is also selected from project to project depending on the heat transfer medium specification. Even the piping material and the housing construction are optimally tailored to the needs. The control technology customized to the building management system rounds off the successful concept of cooling and heating.

A prime example of an energy-efficient THERMODYNAMIXX concept is the equipment of South America’s second-largest brewery in Brazil. By using two MAGMAs with a heating power of 500 kW each, the heat generation for the pasteurization and cleaning processes as well as the cooling of the brewing water are ensured at the same time. The new solution replaces large energy consumers such as saturated steam generators and conventional chillers. In addition to the reduction in installation costs and the smaller footprint, the high efficiency has reduced operating costs by more than 50%. The payback period is reduced to just a few months.
